Within the clinic for pneumology, respiratory medicine and infectiology, we treat all kinds of bronchial and pulmonary diseases.

To safeguard the perfect performance of this task, our clinic - as well as the clinics witin the Augusta-Kranken-Anstalt (AKA - Augusta hospital in Bochum) - offer the following technical capacity (see also clinic equipment):

Pulmonary function test (in a resting state)
(determination of lung capacity, resistance in respiratory tracts, respiratory mechanism and gas exchange)

Cardiological base analysis
electrocardiogram (ECG), stress ECG, long-term ECG, long-term haemodynamometrie

Cardiopulmonary stress test
Spiroergometry (determination of the power reserve of heart/ circulation and lungs)

Radiographical imaging
(X-ray thorax image, computed tomography (16-slice) including high resolution analysis (HRCT), lung scintigraphy) In addition to that, further modern imaging procedures are provided by the » Institut für Radiologie, Nuklearmedizin und Radioonkologie (Institute for radiology, nuclear medicine and radio oncology). Such as for example: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), conventional X-ray diagnostics, digital fluoroscopic unit, mammogram, mamma interventions and angiography and interventions (Digital Subtraction Angiography - DSA).

Bronchoscopy
(flexible video bronchoscopy (OLYMPUS EXERA-II-system), if applicable with fluoroscopy, puncture scope (Olympus) endobrachial ultrasound (EBUS), autofluorescence bronchoscopy, rigid bronchoscopy in anaesthesia, bronchial intervention (laser therapy (Neodym-YAG, Argon), kryotherapy, stent implantation)

Pleural punction and biopsy
(analysis of pleural effusion liquid, biopsy with a RAMEL needle)

Thoracoscopy
(Endoscopy of the thoracic cavity, pleurodesis under visual control)

Thoracic / pleural drainage
(Application within the scope of pleural effusion and the treatment of the pneumothorax, that cannot be aspirated immediately)

Sonography (ultrasound)
Treatment with ultrasound of the thoracic wall and the wall-near pulmonary tracts, endobrachial ultrasound, ultrasound of the abdomen and the vessels, echocardiography (= ultrasound of the heart)

Sleep laboratory and respiration
Pulse oximetry, capnography, ambulant screening examination, polysomnography (ALICE V, 3 places), set for non-invasive respiration (nCPAP, BiPAP)

Allergology
Kutane Prick testing, determination of IgE as well as the particular IgEs regarding different allergens, determination of Aspergillus-specific antigens (Asp 1-6)

Infectiology (in co-operation with Professor Doctor S. Gatermann of the Ruhr-Universität (university) Bochum)
